Coming from a small town where everyone knows everyone you feel safe all of the time. In New Haven that is completely different. I feel that you have to always look over your shoulder and know what is going on around you at all times. At orientation they told us that when you live in New Haven no matter how confortable you feel here never let your guard down. What I did that was out of my comfort zone was take the city bus with my friends. This was the first time that I have ever been on a public transportation bus. I have to say that I was pretty scared because people were looking at us because we defiantly looked like we did not belong there. Also, the grocery store that we needed to go to was not in the best area in town and the people there really scared me. I feel that it defiantly made a difference going during rush hour because there are a lot more people on the bus at this time.
I would have to say that I would not like to take the city bus again. My friends and I were so uncomfortable going to the store on the bus when it was time to go back to our dorm we called one of our friends to come and get us. When I told my parents they were so surprised that I would do something like that because I always hate to be out of my comfort zone. I guess it was good that I experienced it with my friends because if I was alone I think I would be more scared.
