The Other Wes Moore

On November 15,2011 at 7:30 the Author Wes Moore came to Southern to talk about the book The Other Wes Moore. What he talked about was his life story and how he went about writing the book.
Here are some of the interesting points that he made.
1)    he said that the title of the book was not his idea he wanted it to be Baltimore Sons
2)    He still talks to Wes and has a good relationship with him still after the book
3)    Lastly, he talked about peoples family life and how that can make a big different in the way a person behaves but it is not the only factor because both of their parents loved them and one turned out better than the other in the end.

Step It Up

For my final project I believe that the topic that I chose was very interesting. With dorm life as my topic I plan to talk about SCSU and also other schools to compare it to. What is going to make my movie unique is instead of just interviews I am also going to have a skit also. This will add a funny edge and I feel that this is a great way to get my information across. Also, I feel that  I am going to add music and also me personally in the video. Since the movie has to be 8-10 min long I plan to have the skit be the main focus. I also had the idea to make it like MTV cribs and show different peoples dorms so you get a feel of everyone’s surroundings. This will make my movie stand out from other people. I believe that a lot of people are doing this as their topic but everyone seems to be doing only interviews.
By adding information from other schools it will helps students understand what we have and what other schools offer. Lastly, I plan to have music playing through the movie but I still need to find a slide that goes with what I am talking about.
I plan to work on the project way in advance so that I can take my time and make sure that it is a step up from my midterm. By doing it this way I did really good on the last project so I plan to do that again.

Movie Project Outline

For the final project I plan to do a problem and a solution piece. The problems that I am going to focus on are the dorm life at SCSU and maybe tie in other schools as well for a comparison. The main piece is the problems that happen in your day-to-day life on campus. There is going to be a combination of interviews and also small skits to get my information across. I between the interviews I am going to put statistics and other things that are happening at other schools. Some things that I will talk about are the bathrooms, having your own space, roommates, noise and things that happen in your room. That will be the way that I present the problem about dorm life.
For the solution I am going to have things that you can try to get rid of the problem. Also, then have interviews to see what students will do about the situation. Then I put things that other people have tried to solve the problem. This part is going to require some online research.

I feel that the majority of the project is going to be interviews. The skits will be entertaining so the audience does not loss interest on the topic. Since many people live in dorms this is a great topic because people will learn a lot from this. There are coming to be problems presented then how you should solve them.

Book that I Found...

safari #2

For Anthropology we are reading the Patterns of Culture book by Ruth Benedict. The book was relatively easy to find. What I used to help me find it was the online database of all the books and found the location. Once I got to the right floor it was easy to find it. After reading one of the chapters the book is all about different cultures and how people act in their society. In the class we are now reading this to better understand Anthropology. It is a dry read and hard to understand but what is easy about this class.

What are People Like ??

For Tuesday class we are going to talk about the different types of personalities that there are. Theses are the different types of people that the are:
The sanguine type is characterized by spontaneity, optimism, enthusiasm, high energy, mental flexibility, novelty seeking, impulsiveness and curiosity. These traits are associated with specific genes in the dopamine system. These people often have very expressive faces and love using words like "adventure", "energy", "new", "fun", "active", "travel" and the like.
The phlegmatic type people are mainly defined by their social skills like their ability express themselves and read other people face expressions and body language. They do well at connecting facts and seeing "the big picture". They are nurturing, sympathetic, agreeable and emotionally expressive. Some of these character traits are linked with estrogen that is present in both, men and women. Physically you can recognize them by their smooth skin, full lips, round faces and small noses. Their favorite words are "passion", "passionate", "sensitive" and "sweet".
The choleric type is associated with testosterone, which is also present in men and women. These people are direct, focused, tough, analytical, logical and strategic. They have a great deal of courage and like to compete. They often have square jaws, high cheekbones and high foreheads. They use words like "intellect", "ambition" and "challenge".
The Melancholics tend to be calm, loyal and orderly. They are cautious and conventional. These men and women inherited genes in the serotonin system. Their favorite words are "family", "loyal", "respect", "caring", "values" and "moral".
Normally people are a mix of the four different types of personalities. What this group had us do before class was take a personality test. This was a great why to know what type of personality you are. Also, this is a great way to engage the class in what you are going to talk about. I am anxious to see what we talk about during class for this lesson.
